HISTORY OF NSV
The first meeting entitled “The biology of large RNA viruses” was organized by Richard D. Barry and Brian W. J. Mahy in 1969, Cambridge England. A symposium volume was published following this congress which discussed negative-strand RNA viruses, coronaviruses, and retroviruses. The meeting predated the discovery of reverse transcriptase and the recognition that the negative-strand RNA viruses contain an RNA polymerase within the virion. There have been a total of 18 meetings in the series, and we look forward to welcoming you to the next iteration of the series.
